Side Hustles You Can Start Now

Side hustles are jobs and tasks you can do in your spare time.  I have listed some side hustles you can start now that require a low or no start up cost.  Side hustle jobs are a great way to earn extra money to pay off debt, save for a vacation, etc.

This is not an all inclusive list, but maybe it help you generate some of your own ideas.  Think about your current skills.  Can the skills you need for your job be applied to some side hustles?  Do you have a hobby that you can turn into a part time business or side hustle?  Get creative and use your imagination.

As for start up costs, you might want to make up some business cards or flyers to give to people.  It is very low cost and should not require more than $10.00-$20.00.  Visit local grocery stores that have bulletin boards and post your contact information there.  Some convenient stores allow you to leave business cards on their counter.

Before starting a side hustle, you need to consider your fees and any licensing or insurance requirements.  Most will not require those, but knowing beforehand could save you some frustration.

Sell on apps like letgo

Sell your unwanted items on an app (for android and Apple mobile devices) called letgo.  It is free and you keep all of the profit.  I have sold several items on letgo so I know it works.  Of course you want to take good pictures and add a good description.  You will have to decide on a meeting place.  Always meet in a public place, preferably near a police station.  If the item is too large and the buyer needs to come to your location, try to have someone with you or tell a neighbor that you are having a buyer come to your location.  Accept cash only.

Sell on local Facebook groups for buy, sell and trade or yard sales

Another option for selling your unwanted items is listing them on local Facebook groups.  I am a member of several groups for my area and have sold several items.  Apply the same rules for selling on letgo.

Online and offline tutoring

Most of the online tutoring jobs require you to submit an application and have some type of degree or certification.  If you are really good with grammar, know another language or subject you can offer tutoring in your local area.

Offer city tours to visitors

If you live in town or city that attracts tourists and you are very familiar with the area, you can offer city tours.

House cleaning

When I was younger, I used to clean a few houses in my spare time.  You will probably need to bring your own supplies, but some customers might let you use their equipment and supplies for a discounted price.

Babysit

If you have friends, neighbors or family that have children, you can offer to babysit periodically.  I recommend keeping this to people you already know.  Some states require a license to babysit in your home, so you will have to decide how to handle this side hustle.

Pet Sit

This service if great for people who travel for work or leisure.  You can offer your pet sitting services to friends, family and neighbors when first starting out.  You can negotiate a fee that is fair to both parties.

Dog walker

This is similar to the pet sitting service.  People who do not have fenced in yards or live in an apartment usually have to work their dogs.  Some might be willing to pay someone to do it for them.

Dumpster dive

Most people will not be interested in this but I wanted to include it.  My neighbor and her son sometimes look for unwanted pallets that businesses are willing to give away.  When doing so, sometimes those businesses allow them to go through their dumpsters.  They have found some really nice items and sell them for a profit.

Hand out flyers

Businesses sometimes hire people to hand out their flyers.  A friend of mine did this as a side hustle.  Contact local businesses and ask them if they need someone to handout flyers.  You can also contact your local Chamber of Commerce to get a list of the local businesses.

Most people do not know this, but a lot of problems that can occur with computers are actually fairly minor and easy to fix.  If you have a good working knowledge of computers and troubleshooting, you can offer your services to friends, family and neighbors.
